Services

We deal with a lot of enquiries that are very similar due to the marques of vehicle we work on. Although every vehicle is different there are some services where the process is almost identical and below we aim to give you idea of what’s involved before submitting an enquiry.

Whether it be a bare metal shell restoration or a bare metal repaint every job is bespoke even if the model of vehicle was the same as another when in the factory. Historical repairs, maintenance, exposure, product failings all come into account when inspecting a vehicle. With classic cars there is no such thing as ‘how much to paint my?’ Paintwork will only ever look as good as the preparation work that went before it.

Inspections and estimates

A vehicle inspection is essential for giving an accurate estimate although we understand in some circumstances this may not be possible. In most instances an estimate for bodywork and paint is possible from pictures and experience with the understanding the prep/fabrication element is to be added once the vehicle is in position for that inspection to happen.

Insurance work

STR Restohaus is experienced in undertaking insurance-approved repair work on classic vehicles and is able to assist customers wishing to have restoration or refinishing work carried out as part of an insurance claim.

We understand that classic and enthusiast vehicles often require a more sympathetic and considered approach to repair than may be offered through mainstream repair networks.

Where required, we are able to liaise with insurers or assessors to ensure that repair work is carried out to an appropriate standard, with due regard for originality, finish and long-term vehicle integrity.

Bmw e46 rear arch replacement

One of our most common enquiries and one we have a wealth of experience with. The arches rot inner to outer meaning the inners will always need replacing. There are a lot of processes involved for what is a ‘simplified’ enquiry

This process typically involves:

• Removal of rear bumper, rear lights , rear wheels and skirts

• Thorough cleaning of inner arch areas including prepping for paint

• Removal of existing sealant to expose affected inner arch sections

• Removal of corroded inner arch panels

• Installation and welding of replacement inner arch sections

• Removal of affected outer arch panels

• Installation and welding of replacement outer arch sections

• Epoxy priming of repaired inner arch areas

• Application of spray sealant for corrosion protection

• Refinishing of inner arch surfaces

• Epoxy priming of repaired outer arch areas

• Body preparation and refinishing of external quarter panel

• Paint blending into adjacent door panel for colour match

• Removal and refitting of associated trim and exterior components

Replacement panels are non genuine and therefore must be supplied by the customer at their own risk.

Bmw E46 REAR JACKING POINTS REINFORCEMENT

This process typically involves:

• Removal of side skirts, splash shields and undertrays

• Installation of temporary structural support to allow safe lifting of the vehicle

• Removal of rear outer sill sections to expose jacking point areas

• Assessment of sill condition, with replacement panels fitted where corrosion is present

• Repair and reforming of damaged or crushed jacking point structures

• Installation and welding of reinforcement plates to jacking point areas

• Application of protective coating

• Reinstallation of original or replacement outer sill sections

• Epoxy priming of repaired areas

• Application of spray sealant to replicate factory corrosion protection

• Refinishing of repaired sill and jacking point areas

• Reinstallation of removed components

We use Redish Motorsport reinforcement frames

Mk1 & 2 VW Golf’s

One of the most iconic hot hatches of the late 70’s - early 90’s they have out lasted many of their rivals of that era. We have restored the bodywork on countless numbers of these from humble GL’s to Edition One G60’s. In all of those we have come across not even a handful that did not require a full shell restoration. Those rare gems were 1-2 owners, stored away indoors with minimal moisture and elements to affect them.

For the others they follow a similar pattern of metal fatigue and rot in the same area much of which is not visible while the vehicle is built up. For these reasons we can only consider enquires for the following.

Due to the condition of many vehicles now in circulation, we are only able to consider enquiries that meet the following criteria:

• Shell restoration projects where the vehicle will be supplied fully stripped to a bare shell by the customer

• Repaint projects where the vehicle has been in long-term ownership or can demonstrate previous restoration or welding work

• Vehicles or bodyshells that have been stored in dry conditions for an extended period

• Localised refinishing involving one to two panels due to paint defects, blemishes or minor panel damage.
